I find it so grating when people who aren’t from the south and/or black say “y'all”. You can always tell when it’s an affectation and it sounds so ugly. Plus they mostly only use it when they’re being Online and snotty. And you just know that most people who have the lack of personality necessary to appropriate it instead of using their own ideolect are the same people who were making fun of AAVE and southern dialects for cheap humor ten years ago.

Yeah it was stigmatized until everyone went all Obama exists so we’d better pretend to listen to Kanye and oh, black people say y’all too, we should say y’all now, which is one step more complicated than Obama says folks all the time so we will too but no less grating

It’s a good second person plural, I consciously started using it in the mid-90s even tho from the Philly-area “jawn”shed I was heir to “youse”
