ITT NY Times accidentally discovers that giving people the ability to determine national policy based solely on their surviving to adulthood and managing to draw oxygen is a terrible way to manage society.

we ought to begin by acknowledging that none of us who were born here did anything to deserve our citizenship

Most of us who were born here grew up in American culture and adopted its norms and sense of tribal identity as our own. Some of the rest became journalists instead.

I assumed they at least grokked the concept of “birthright”, otherwise why all the emphasis on what tasty food we could trade it for?
