I\u2019m really not impressed with governments privatising their registries, as managing centralised registries is one of the few things you would want a government to be effective at doing.

NSW sold its land titles registry for $2.6 billion and Victoria for $2.8 billion, both to the same superannuation fund consortium who are going to run it for forty years and presumably squeeze it for all that it\u2019s worth, which must be quite a bit or they wouldn\u2019t have spent five billion dollars buying them.

in return the government gets a one-off cash injection which it\u2019s going to blow on some stupid election pork that won\u2019t generate any ongoing return.
