I laughed at those ‘80s cartoons where like G.I. Joe had to capture the Great Seal of Alaska lest Cobra inherit the state so the fact you can literally take the mace away from Parliament and things fall apart is hilarious

I went to the Hearst Castle once and it’s this hilariously tacky house built out of priceless ancient artifacts and on the table of the grand hall (which had the roof from this one ancient monastery and the windows from another next to the entry hall with a Charlemagne tapestry or something) they had this Irish mace of office but they say it was a replica and the museum gave the original back

Then I asked google which one it was and it gave me several different answers all tied into different tourism-boosting pages

Which is how relics have always worked
