Assassin’s Creed:Egypt ended in the Abstergo/Assassins frame story by agency of the sad (grey-)beard dad of the series’ original (betrayed?, dead??) frame story protagonist
After the story proper was about a couple growing apart drawn the way that they separately coped with the death of their son
A lot of which was well rendered! A lot not, what you get when you thread a plot through so many missions you have a writing team working off theme memos.
The few bits where they’re like “but you’re also causing pain gotta face it” are weak relative to the serious moral revisionism of the Colonial America-Paris-London cycle and ridiculous when you killed like 3000 mooks in between
But this goddamn sad dad shit. It is to AAA games what the Holocaust is to Oscar-bait these days. Gotta hope we can make the cultural turn where the nervous parent factions of each tribe can scourge away excesses on each other’s side just in time to re-understand them as a united whole that we can define ourselves against such that their trivial collapse is a great validation and sign of progress
And then it can be the 90s again, inshallah
And part of that will be putting this dead kid stuff in the path of wherever the energy against “fridging” is going
(and the Alex Jones purge is a good sign of the realignment, I’d rather oppose the corrupt order with Michael Tracey [greying dad gateway to Jesse Singal and Quillette] than with Richard Spencer tbh)
