In LA I knew a girl who did her anthropology Masters fieldwork in Thailand, on burial practices in polyconfessional frontiers

(Her whole post-colonial program had railed how “Indochina” was a reductionist and wrong frame, then the Deep Culture she saw seemed like a pretty clear Indosphere-Sinosphere synthesis only local-shifted at the cosmetic level)

And she was like “Thailand is the best place to vacation, it’s got all the things - beaches, resorts, cities, clubbing, luxury shopping, motorcycle routes into the undeveloped interior, beautiful ancient cultural sites, and for so cheap”

And with her influence still I’m like do I want to be the kinda guy who goes to Thailand
