Moira Donegan tweeted today that the charge of not seeing [PEOPLE_TYPE] “as human” is off and it’s more a matter of not valuing humanity
And having boggled at that charge before that does get at a fundamentally religious element of my burgeoning conservatism (beyond being a white male homeowner closing on 40 etc.)
That while I see myself as from-but-beyond Christianity, my model of humanity does basically mirror Christian “original sin” - that humans qua humans are inherently failed and unworthy BECAUSE of being human thus imperfect and mortal.
And what I shed as supernatural and sentimental and superficial in rejecting Christianity was the offer of salvation - easy unearned validity - through the blood of the lamb OR alternative folk rituals, etc.
