Looked up two of my college professors including my official advisor and they were both recently dead, which made me realize that I didn’t really have any experience with the death of a father figure

(both my grandfathers were perfectly serviceable “old man” archetypes, that people associated with me for impenetrably arbitrary reasons. With time I could readback some influence on my parents, though why they paid them any attention I’ll never know)
