1983-1989ish – childhood – oblivious

1989ish-2001 – youth – “This is terrible, I’m gonna have to build my own society from scratch”

2001-2005 – college – “I’m learning exactly the knowledge and precedents I need to build my own society from scratch, but this here can be pretty decent and it looks like the best of my generation and the growing consensus are dedicated to making the whole society like that, I might not have to”

2005-2011 – LA – “Well this is kinda trash but by all getting famous/being On The Internet we can escape the fetters of normie society until Vice Magazine and bloggers fix it for us”

2011-14 – Portlandia – “Oh, no, someone already got it right, better than I could, and everyone seems to love it. I’ll swear myself to learning from it and protecting it.”

2015 – Portland – “I couldn’t protect it.”

2016-17 – Will Never Be Young Again – “1989-2001 wasn’t that bad.”

2018 – 2018 – “This is terrible, I’m gonna have to build my own society from scratch”

I mean this is the appeal of cultural traditionalism right, that if you marry and breed young and uphold hierarchical prerogatives then before you get to the 6th step you’ve already built your own pocket society from scratch and get to live the rest of your life in it
