What would you say is the generic name of the game that Magic: The Gathering is a brand of premium game pieces for?
You’re looking for something other than “collectible card game”?
The question occurred to me in the process of writing my comments on this post. Since game mechanics cannot be copyrited, Magic: The Gathering could be thot of as just a particular brand of game cards (in the same way that you could have some copyrited brand of chess piece designs) for a broader, public domain game with all of the same rules but none of WotC’s IP.
