The only context in which this tax bill makes any political sense is that the establishment Republicans (who through McConnell have control over sequencing, with an executive that can’t put things on the agenda for shit) think their only chance in the coming primaries and general is massive carpet-bombing campaign spending and this is the payoff to their donors to unlock the donations required.

As a strategy that WORKED in 2014, fighting off (then Tea-branded) insurgents and making gains in the general, but it really feels like fighting the last war here.
