Once every few months I read something mentioning that Mikhail Gorbachev did a commercial for Pizza Hut, and every single time I briefly realize that the world is fundamentally absurd and grotesque, and then immediately forget about it for the next few months.

It’s both, Capitalism satirizes itself, even in triumph. As indefinite growth marches on perpetually, all lines will eventually be crossed, what is indecent will be unearthed, what is ridiculous will become commonplace. We can already see how the limits of the Earth, biosystems, the natural limitations of the human body are dispensed with. So too are the limits of decency and seriousness.
