Not @kontextmaschine, but I’ve heard a lot of people from multiple sources basically complain that the Girl Scouts are a giant cookie-selling machine who got rid of all the actual scouting (Depending on the exact corner of the discourse, the phrase “SJW parasite organization” comes up a lot).  

Combine it with the fact that both organizations are suffering from severe membership declines, and you get today’s merger.  

More of a hostile takeover. They’re both experiencing membership declines; I think the idea is the BSA’s already got the built-out institutional capacity to spare, they’ll get plenty of free “earned media” for the initiative, there’ll be synergy in attracting mixed-gender broods, and with a better endgame capstone program in Eagle Scouts they’ll be better at retention past middle school
