One of the weird side plots in American culture is that the US Air Force, uniquely among the armed services, has seen its command structure and culture get a lot more evangelical Christian since the end of the Cold War, apparently for the incidental reason that the Air Force Academy is located in Colorado Springs, which became an evangelical redoubt out of the revivalist ‘80s
