Google is A Weird Insider Culture. It’s prone to elitism and groupthink. Skills acquired inside Google are usually not really transferable to the outside. Google allows C, Java, JavaScript, Go and Python. Google has its own operating system, cloud computing, database, compute cluster architecture, build system, internal social network.

The same corporate-cultural patterns that make Valve, GitHub and Google so resistant against “diversity“ also make the culture hostile to conservatives (iff conservatives are in the minority): The pressure to be friends with your co-workers, the obsession with candidates being a good “cultural fit” and to have no life outside work.

If Google is making it harder to meet people outside of Google, then most new relationships of Googlers will be with other Googlers, and Google will have to regulate far more sex/dating than regular 9-5 companies. A similar pattern happens in anarchist collectives/environmentalist communes/group houses.

If I were Google, I would put @kontextmaschine in charge of marrying off my single male engineers at a certain age.

I seriously thought that was the plan years ago (and approved) yet that brought us here and I would not have stopped it, don’t idolize me like that
