OHHHH, the “Chi” in “Chicano” was originally the same as the “xi” in “Mexico”, I just got that.
There’s an alternate universe out there where people are earnestly typing “Xcanx”
I mean I say that as something to laugh at the -x terminal
But like “American English replaced Latinate gender-marking terminals with -x under the influence of this development in American Spanish”, that is totally a thing that could happen
EXCEPT
1. how do you pronounce that?
2. who’s to say it sticks
remember “Latin@”?
that was the year, remember when tumblr was still bothering to cite “third sex” traditions for legitimacy, the discourse that requiring SRS (then “bottom surgery”, then nothing) was “mandatory sterilization”
(OUR third sex tradition was castrati, no one brought that up)
that was what, ONE presidential reelection ago?
