The thing missing from discussions of the NC antidiscrimination preemption bill is the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance’s repeal-by-plebiscite a few months ago.

After someone put energy into making it a public issue even an urban, ethnically mixed, “safely tolerant” voter base rejected broad, multi-class antidiscrimination protections wholesale by a 2-to-1 margin rather than endorse transgender mainstreaming. That’ll prove an important precedent.
