When Frank ends, there will be a new Frank. The old Frank will be returned to the dust bin of history, but its source code will live on, and it will be resurrected some day.

Frank 2, Frank 3, and so on.

Then, at last, one day, there will come Frank the Infinite.

Okay I also today tried going from 5 creatine scoops at noon to 4 and then 1 at midnight. It seems to be two months, or possibly two months and two weeks, between being ready to go down one scoop/day, think at the halfway mark I might start switching one to PM, so I have like 4.5 in the day but have an easier time getting out of bed for a new dose in the mornings.

I think this might end up using up more fat for energy, as the stronger effect from 1 scoop’s worth is shifted from only mattering for exertion that 4 alone were insufficient for to coming overnight when my systems otherwise slow down for lack of energy.

Also, if I’m deploying my insider’s structural view of public education, in terms of “role in the allocation of local power”, school boards are about

  • Real estate
  • Real estate
  • Real estate
  • Labor relations
  • Construction contracting
  • Political patronage
  • Pedagogy
  • Social issues

Anyone elected on an anti-woke OR “support our liberal values!” platform will be eaten alive and essentially constitutes the electorate deciding to raise taxes on real estate owners for the benefit of other players in the system.

Let’s propose a trade. Maybe the UK is willing to allow Americans to say “spaz” but in exchange Americans must allow Brits to casually say either “cunt” or “faggot” (only have to choose one)?

i will let you say not only ‘spaz’ but the whole range of spasticity based slurs, but you must permit 'retarded’.

Is spasticity like, significant to the British, like an occupational hazard of some big local industry or an effect of exposure to dark satanic mill residue or WWI poison gas or something? I can’t remember the last time it even came up over here.

do not research Joey Deacon

Institutionalized with cerebral palsy, was assumed to be mentally “subnormal” but through much effort with other institutional patients wrote and published a pamphlet-length book which funded their independent lives, appeared on a prominent children’s show as an inspirational story but became an object of nationwide schoolboy mockery, with “spaz” taking on much the role “retard” did in American youth culture.

Okay, I guess that works. One thing I will say is the Covid-brain experience made me realize how much of the stereotype of the rural moron, loping along with hips and belly forward, shoulders back, and arms hanging down and swinging freely with the wrists loose is really a stereotype of someone with significant nerve or brain issues.

A distinction though is with American schoolboy “retard” – like, there were kids with Down Syndrome around that the term was literally invoking, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, first passed in 1975 (as the Education for All Handicapped Children Act), required students be educated in the “least restrictive environment”, and reasonably functional Down kids were taught (often in dedicated classes, with varying degrees of “mainstreaming” exposure to the general student body and regular school structures). Whereas the thing about Joey Deacon was that people with conditions like his were withdrawn from society, not exposed to the general public.

Question: Whyyy didn’t Democrats repeal the debt limit when they had 60 Senators in 2009?

Answer: There exist figures closely involved in or exposed to financial markets whose favor and support is necessary to the institutional structure and continuation of the party as constituted since the collapse of labor unions who very strongly prefer that the amount of government debt issuance be held to caps known well in advance and requiring approval of some portion of the Republican Party even in periods of Democratic trifecta.

“Obviously, the ‘Twilight’ IP was the star there,” said director-producer Aaron Kaufman, who has worked with a number of alums from the vampire-human love story. “The shift to promoting IP over stars may have sounded like a good idea because IP doesn’t overdose or tweet about Nazis. However, this shift has left the cupboard bare when it comes to next-generation stars. This is an issue now that the IP stores have been cleaned out and all that’s left is Tube-Sock Man or whatever Marvel has yet to make.”

This article points to the DVD → streaming transition as a pivotal moment in the decline of the star system for producing and marketing movies, but treats this as a purely technological shift (streaming = greater market segmentation and less marketing for a given release largely due to the nature of the medium) instead of also a shift in property relations. If a star is a leading actor who audiences have a relationship with over an extended period of time, it’s worth thinking about the role that ownership of home video might play in maintaining an actor’s relevance outside the release window of any given film… ‘90s Kids Will Remember™ when watching a movie at home meant picking something off your shelf of VHS tapes or DVDs, and as a result there were movies you watched over and over again years after they came out, not just because they were good but also because they were what was there. Do you know how many times I’ve seen Troy or The Chronicles of Riddick? Not even stone cold classics, just good mid-tier action films that will hold up to a bunch of rewatches. Would I think about Brad Pitt or Vin Diesel in the same way if I only saw their movies in the month or two after release?

The wider selection of streaming isn’t a bad thing in principle, but it means so many movies and TV shows just vanish into the ether after release and are never given the chance to develop that kind of long-term following. They don’t even have to be removed from the service, just buried under the endless deluge of new content. Merchandising 101: if you never see something with your eyeballs, you won’t think about it, and you won’t watch it. If you do happen to remember a movie from a few years ago you’d like to watch, in principle it’s probably available, but there’s no guarantee it’s on the streaming service you subscribe to, and those things rotate every few months. It’s never going to be ready at hand in the way a DVD (or a file on your external hard drive!!!!!!!) would be.

This too damages the long-term star-building potential of movies, on top of the lower marketing budgets and the subordination of actors to IP and the fact that frankly studios know you’re not going to rewatch anything so things aren’t made to hold up to a rewatch. (Just look at “no spoilers” fandom culture and the plummeting multipliers for theatrical blockbusters for confirmation of this strategy and its effects.)

Shortly after leaving Hollywood I remember the thing was “packaging”, agencies would assemble actors, directors, and scripts from among their clients, thus claiming territory (and capturing money and influence away) from studios and producers, how’d that go?

Reblog if you remember those 6 months the entire Internet was being funded by ads for the X10 webcam

The “nannycam” branding around it (you could see how babysitters acted when you weren’t around) was actually pretty efficient in how it built a child-protection rationale that incidentally focused on specifically unrelated young women expecting privacy in your home (you never saw it framed around contractors or dogwalkers or pool guys, or even latchkey problem children) but kind of comical in how perfunctory it was

I’m gonna be honest and this is purely as a matter of taste and not about other issues pertaining to it but I think five seasons is a perfectly fine soft-limit for shows involving a continuous narrative. Stuff you can watch random episodes of like episodic conflict-of-the-week stuff, docu-series, game shows etc are different (and maybe an exception for book adaptations that use a season=book format) but like I remember when Breaking Bad ended as season 5 and people widely praised that as a show of restraint from the creators and the network because they could’ve easily milked it for two or three more seasons and the show would’ve suffered for it like has happened many times before. 2-3 seasons is way to short of a soft limit but 5 sounds fair

I know this is a longshot but I feel like Tumblr is the best place to ask- does anyone have the official Joe Biden Spore file? I have not been able to find it on the old Sporepedia links that I found.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about I know what you’re thinking- “Joe Biden Spore model? OFFICIAL Joe Biden Spore creature model?”

Yes, OFFICIAL Joe Biden 2008 election voting awareness ad campaign Spore model.

Please, I need it for obvious reasons.

Image is taken from the sporepedia listing but if that doesn’t work then it’s the result by MaxisCactus on this link.

Not only did it work, but I also discovered that 12-15 year old Sporepedia comments are still readable on the website.

And in this moment I know that we must go back to when the internet was this inscrutable

Ah, okay, if I stagger the timing right its feasible to take iron from a “3 pills every 12 hours” level down to 3/2 days with less drain starting to show up at time for next dose than when I started 3/3, but it’s gonna be just easier to keep it synced with Badger’s meals until it drops to 2/2.
