Tragedy! You set out to read a negative review of a piece of media you dislike, only to find that the critic is being completely unfair to it and making a bunch of bad, unsupportable arguments.
this is literally correct. im so mad that i cant find it right now, maybe i will later, but a few months ago i read a paper that was a report on a survey of k-tape use by sports medicine people and physical therapists, and 70% of them reported that they knew/had observed that k-tape does absolutely nothing, but that athletes are so superstitious that the PTs would use the tape anyway because it improved performance via placebo. the majority of studies on k-tape are either inconclusive or a very definite “this does absolutely nothing”.
i could see it maybe being useful specifically for proprioception due to pull sensation, and possibly in EDS patients where skin elasticity had something to do with muscle/joint stability and taping the surface provided more resistance. otherwise its less relevant to injury than prehistoric medical tatooing, at least the latter would involve microinjury with a needle, which we do have evidence to support lol
Yeah, at most it adjusts sensation such that the movement that’s mechanically ideal is the one it feels natural to do.
Not even summer vacation yet and I’m vibing like it’s back-to-school season already, in a hilariously on-the-nose metaphor for my recent fixation on mortality
I was out in the daytime for most of them but I couldn’t tell you if this year is really cooler than last or if I’m just comparing summer with spring
Think I may have started last year still a little mind-gone at background levels, or at least processing fewer threads at once, so these points may be equivalent in terms of how much work I’d done conceptualizing the year already

I used to be like “sure I’m fat but I’m not that fat, I’m just a little fat”, but as I lose weight I unearth a succession of slightly less fat men trapped inside and I’m now objectively around that “a solid layer of mostly-firm padding laid over an otherwise fit body” level I was thinking of but that was a lot of fat ago
I recall @kontextmaschine getting into it a while back with Anon over “you keep saying that Woke is gonna roll back but you don’t give examples”, and it occurs to me that the recent Target Pride thing is exactly an example of how it’s gonna go. Company brings out a Liggibettequeue-theme thing, Yay We Love Queers, and then Oh No There’s Complaints And Protests (which there’s precious little public evidence of, but, y'know, protests) and where in previous times the company would’ve kept going now they have Safety Concerns and the whole thing gets shoved to the back of the store and deleted from the website and never spoken of again.
And I just read a story about some kids putting on a play where Robin Hood is actually Maid Marian, and they had to do it in a garage because the school nixed the idea, and the interesting thing to me was that the school shut it down not after lengthy and vitriolic demonstration from angry adults threatening violence but after a couple parents phoned the school and complained. And sure, you can interpret that as “oh, the Right Wing is Ascendant and people don’t want to buck them”, but as late as 2020 I would have expected at least a little pushback from the school authorities, and from the language in the story it was less “someone has made credible threats” and more “we don’t want a bunch of people showing up and making a scene because we consider avoiding scenes more important than supporting queer stuff.”
“Somehow rebounding into a cockeyed reaffirmation of gender roles via rejecting 90s Strong Female Characters” is the kinda bullshit way these things do tend to resolve.
You know, it’s actually kinda weird for telling tales of the settling frontier that the Red Dead Redemption universe has a Texas analogue, a New Orleans analogue, a Northern California analogue, but no San Francisco analogue.
Good teeth cleaning, then went to the nursery for some pots, soil, lavender, and the first blueberries, and scouted for the future strawberries and trees.
Recently I saw some news articles online claiming that an infant was jailed because its parents possessed a Bible in North Korea. And everybody’s eating that shit up
i think i do remember hearing somewhere that if the primary caregiver of a family goes to prison in north korea then the whole family goes with them so that they stay together as a social unit, but definitely don’t quote me on that because like 90% of what comes out about north korea is completely unable to be verified.
there also seems to be a massive industry of english language NGOs set up in South Korea to take advantage of that fact. they conduct “independent investigations” into human rights abuses in the DPRK and report their findings from these investigations to the U.N., which gives them more access to human rights grants and other massive funds.
the methodology for the investigations published by these NGOs is interviewing and giving surveys to a couple dozen north korean defectors. it pretty much starts and ends there. Yeonmi Park is a pretty notorious example of one of these defectors who found monetary incentive to lie and become a media figure, which is what she did. other defectors also usually aren’t going to have a positive opinion of the country considering they left in the first place (if you don’t count the people who defect back to north korea after living in south korea for a while). it’s not exactly rigorous investigation, and there’s usually not a verifiable way to prove that what they’re saying is true.
in the case of religious stuff specifically, north korea has a long history of being harassed by christian missionaries as well as a christian-led reactionary backlash to the revolution that makes this even more complicated. people seem to think that north korea destroys all christians on sight because they hate God and Freedom and are Satan Loving Communists or some shit but historically christianity has existed in NK entirely as political opposition. i made another post on that here (x)
but generally speaking if you google something and it was first reported in the New York Post it’s safe to assume it’s fake and laugh about it
Prophylactically suppressing children of Christian families in defense against Christianity as an avenue for foreign influence of your East Asian country is a tradition!
(The thing was Japanese diplomats at the Chinese court saw Indian nobles complaining about losing their domains to Christianity-as-European-entryism, and when they brought word back to the home islands the Shogunate looked up to notice the Portuguese following the exact same script there and was like “hmmm”, and after Christians joined a local rebellion proceeded to crucify them all for the rest of the bakufu’s rule)
