Yeah you know maybe the Covid-fretters are right, if we’re not gonna beat this with conscious intervention but by the classic organic strategy of coevolving with it, that kinda is eugenics, in a way much more so than things that usually get called that with no mechanism to improve future generations: through repeated waves of infection that disproportionally kill the vulnerable and foreclose further reproduction of genelines that give rise to those vulnerabilities, while disproportionately sparing those with genetically encoded resistance (and leaving them with a larger share of resources that can contribute to reproductive success in the absence of the first group) until after a millennia or so whole-population humanity shrugs it off

Oh also I’ve just had the sensation that things looked… darker the last week. I know that after the 1st case wore off I was finding that my iPhone brightness settings were too high and I switched to dimmer bulbs in some lamps, but I hadn’t even thought of that as a thing

It’s actually nice to get symptoms one-by-one to help untangle the understanding of when they were all smeared together. When I couldn’t walk I had like 8 different issues overlapping. There be some specific-ass parts of the brain this got into.

Nice thing is that the brain fails really gracefully, when something gives out there’s always a more rudimentary level of the same function ready to take over, or some less specific adjacent one it hands off to. I’m wondering how much my intelligence all along was really using higher levels of these things than others.

Ah, fuck, the “fugueing”, where I do things without forming new memories so that I surprise myself by noticing myself doing/having done things, I still have that to look forward to, huh? Or maybe I already had it. How would I know?

Okay yeah, got the bonus gravity effect and yeah, it’s just low energy + low blood pressure, took some creatine tablets I had in my bedside table for use in specific of this sneak attacking me again and now it’s just the pressure. I’d been hearing people report blood pressure as a “long” symptom and between that and the time it surged in mania yeah. Sure that’s part of how people with weakened hearts/vessels get heart attacks and strokes, too.

Is really striking how it reveals that it was incredibly specific parts of the brain it messed with (and maybe still have herpes-style dormant virus?) that correspond to incredibly specific functions to generate these exact particular symptoms when affected. And how the brain actually fails incredibly gracefully where when damaged these mechanisms fall back to a more rudimentary level of service or offload onto other, less finely dedicated mechanisms

Also as with the original case, the parts involved in generating text output or using a GUI are unaffected, and just opening up Tumblr requires no volitional brainpower, so it is maybe not obvious to everyone that I am in multiple ways below the level of being able to make a package of cheap ramen at this point

Ah, god, of course my future-planning issues would come back the day when I try to plot out a few Must-Do-By-DUE_DATE things with multiple sets of steps and cross-dependencies until the end of the year, so I have to do it while able to at most hold an array with maximum dimension of 2 in memory.

So I have to do multiple passes (the planning process itself also limited thus) written out before I can generate a simple “what am I doing tomorrow”. It’s like programming a fucking mainframe in the 1950s.
