not at the moment, no. we have a way of backfilling them, but we’d have to literally crawl through the billions of reblogs on tumblr to do it, so it’s not something we can do quickly/easily. it’s not at the top of our todo list.

but it’s a fun problem at tumblr’s scale! let’s say there’ve been an average of ~10 million reblogs made per day over 15 years of tumblr’s existence (that’s probably not the real average, this is just an exercise), that’s a little under 55 billion reblogs total so far. we don’t have a quick way of knowing whether a reblog has added content and/or tags, so we’d need to go through each one of them, one at a time.

if we could do this process of checking and updating them at … let’s say 50 posts per second to be cautious… we’d be able to do only 1.5 billion of them in a whole year……. it’d take 36 years to get through them all. we could probably do it much faster than that, but even at 500 posts per second, it’d take three and a half years of non-stop checking old posts to update ‘em all.

fun problem! lots of other ways of doing this kind of thing, but just a little sample of how crazy it can be to work at tumblr’s scale.

played sims 4 for the first time and one of the married cis men had a desire to try for baby with his cis husband. i accidentally pinned it and could not unpin it. trying for baby is physically impossible. I tried to use cheats to give him a viable womb in create a sim but it wouldn’t let me do so retroactively. so I thought, maybe if they adopt the want for pregnancy will go away, and had them adopt a toddler daughter. but then the try for baby desire did not go away. since they now had an unwanted adopted child I tried to remove the toddler from the household, thinking this would send her back into the ether. it did not. instead she wanders the neighborhood like a feral cat. i thought the social worker would come and take her back so someone else could adopt her, but I guess there is no social worker in sims 4. so now the neighborhood is haunted by a smelly miserable baby that has no home but cannot die and everyone who sees her is uncomfortable. fucking omelas scenario.

This also means that autism and sexuality (the old personality was heterosexual, this one’s bi) aren’t set at birth (and thus conceivably might be externally influencable), but are set prerationally and aren’t consciously (or possibly at all) changeable within an established personality
