Musta been weird being an old-school post system horse, like occasionally someone’ll show up out of nowhere and ride you real hard for 6 hours and leave you somewhere else entirely
Fire Island twinks do that every summer, pony Xpress horses ain’t special
Hm, the anxiety, all unsolicited negative projections of the future, edging back in again, I worry – worry! – and I guess it’s within a reasonable timeframe to be working up to another mania. Fuck, I was hoping that wasn’t going to be a thing now.
You know maybe it’s sleep deprivation though, I’ve been making myself get out of bed when I could’ve gone back another cycle or two a few times lately as I take care of stuff with a drop dead date but that’s over now, maybe I should just go back to sleep
Ohh, but I have difficulty restraining my trotting (not yet racing) mind enough to fall asleep, that points back to impending mania
I first picked up on the bipolar stuff in college as periodically recurring insomnia (and then I was first professionally diagnosed in the opposite direction off the down phases as depression)

When I was first riding Blue Bitch up from LA circa the Occupy movement I took the chance to head on to Seattle and stay with a friend of my dad’s for a while, my impression was “if I hadn’t first encountered Portland I might settle here”, but since then all the Amazon and the Bay Area tech overflow and I was like “that only decreases the appeal”
That and the Portland pinball scene was in communication with the Seattle scene and the sense (especially from people who went up for tournaments) was “they’re cool but my is cocaine a thing there”.
And since then you hear about The Greater Seattle Polycule, but actually that sounds more in my direction – personal investment aside I primally associate poly with my middle school renn faire and college arts dorm scene as signal of good weirdos – and if Portland is changing hope it ends up cycling to that
One reason why star wars is a really good setting: hardware is cheap and scarily advanced, software (with the exception of the fully-sentient droids) is rudimentary. It’s like an inverse of our world, where interplanetary travel is so cheap and easy that owning a space ship is basically equivalent to owning a car, but despite the fact that droids can understand speech, it’s impossible to make a snooper program that listens to people talking and flags conversations that contain certain keywords

How does thecybersmith manage to come up with these absolutely raw phrases like “you are an intellectual troglodyte and I am the blazing sun” is just so fucking metal
Also, and perhaps more importantly, I am sincere. All that I proclaim is issued forth by my uttermost self. This gives power to my words, a power that the fawning sycophantic pursuers of public approval can do nothing but envy.
Why does thecybersmith of all people have big dick energy

war and murder are awful. killing another human being is a horrible thing to do. swords and guns are cool as fuck. these two beliefs exist simultaneously in my mind and do not conflict at all
this is the central thesis of KILL SIX BILLION DEMONS
I wonder if that’s what people have been using to take out transformers at power substations. Folks were all like “what are you even gonna do with a .50 cal rifle?” but “destroying materiel from a distance” is in fact the intended use case
nah, all they have to do is put some holes in the plastic casing and let the coolant drain out. it doesn’t happen fast, but it doesn’t take more than a deer rifle. the fifty-cal is more for taking out armored things, or working from longer range than a couple hundred yards. (it actually wouldn’t make an appreciably larger hole in a light plastic housing.)
Not to make a Christmas Post but Santa did everything right re: the Rudolph situation and every time I see some edgelord slander talking about “the lesson of Rudolph is that your differences will be punished until the powers that be find them useful” I just assume that person is a little thick and misunderstood a song written to be so simple babies can understand it
One of the most basic things they teach you in Teacher School is that if you know a kid is being bullied, bringing all the other kids together and scolding them for being mean and excluding That Kid is a great way to escalate it from “they don’t let this kid play with them” to “they are beating up this kid.”
If you actually want to address the problem, the other kids can’t know they’re being told what to do. A good way to address it is to create a situation where the bullied kid gets to be the big cool hero in a way that benefits everybody, then put the bullied kid in that situation and let them save the day.
Santa, in “Rudolph,” is essentially doing the same thing that any teacher does when they have a class jeopardy game with a pizza party riding on it, and give the last question to the weird kid who’s bullied for being super into anime, and that question happens to be about that kid’s favorite anime, and they get it right, and now EVERYBODY gets pizza, thanks to Anime Kid!
Creating a situation, among a community of christmas-loving deer, where christmas can only happen because of the thing that’s special about Rudolph, was literally LITERALLY him intervening on Rudolph’s bullying. Do you think Santa, an immortal time-bending elf-saint who is sanctioned by god to monitor the children of the world and deliver them toys, is unable to navigate a foggy night? You really think his offering Rudolph, an untested rookie, the glamor post was an act of last resort? Do any of you know ANYTHING about Pedagogy or Classroom Management? These are deer. BABIES understand this song.
One lane open for the taking is “the male socialization you would have got already really was incompatible with valid womanhood in Janice Raymond’s day, but thanks to the successes of second- and third-wave feminism that’s no longer true”
Thinking about The Boondocks (2005-2014), the adaptation of the newspaper comic that, like Doonesbury before it, some papers ran on the editorial page as more appropriate to its subject and can’t help wondering how much the Atlanta-based Adult Swim was playing to itself with “Black people move to the suburbs and interface with mainstream American life” as an angle on the world
