I wonder how close the closest universe is where cis gay men are the signature LGBT group most hated by radfems. Presumably this would be a universe where fujoshi had less cultural impact and the media trope of the straight woman who's sad her love interest turned out to be gay metastasized instead of falling out of favor.
I think it would have to do with how much of the ‘90s culture was telling women they’d made it, and how much of that was really gay men holding themselves up as models for straight women to follow in order to do it right.
Like, the Sex and the City writing staff was largely gay men (cis, natch), and when you look back at it you realize how much the girlfriends were really being plotted and written as gay men about women’s topics – or not even that, about relationships with men
Thought-to-speech technology that gets hacked by people who want text messages from their pets while they are at work, only to immediately regret it because their pets text them the dumbest things, and the only way to get any kind of a clear image of what’s going on is texting the other pets for cross-reference.
Like you get a text from your dog going “END IS HERE DOOM IS COMING URGENT URGENT SEND TEXT G-D HAVE MERCY, HUMAN COME HOME IMMEDIATELY”, (you have no idea why the text translator has decided that your dog is jewish, but that doesn’t feel important enough to look into or change) and before you do, you text the cat like “what’s going on?”
And the cat replies “sunshine is turned off, window is cold >:C” so okay that’s a clue. You’ve got a monitor lizard that doesn’t do much monitoring, but will reply with whatever the lizard is feeling right now if you text “?” first.
“hwrmbglhlr the earth rumbles are sexy”, replies the lizard. Okay, so dog panic, no sunshine, and the lizard is sensing vibrations. Oh, there’s a rain storm overhead. Fuck’s sake.

And some of you may not have heard this peak of human culture, but… just after Twitter purchase by Elon Musk got confirmed, a bunch of (serious) journalist put together a Twitter Space (a live audio streaming where any of the attendees can ask to participate) about what was going to happen next, and … @tumblr joined. And… they invited tumblr to speak. I can’t describe how much joy this moment brought me and how fucking proud made me of being part of our little entropy generator here:

It’s not, because it’s not talking about men just naturally speaking in this manner, but men who don’t speak like this regularly switching to this type of language specifically to talk down to women they disagree with. To seem more intellectual then those women.
The context here matters and is different from just someone having this manner of speaking naturally because they’re neurodivergent/autistic. Here it’s someone using this manner of speaking to talk down to others.
Here’s the thing: I don’t talk that way by default either. But if I’m feeling threatened, I switch up to a highly formal register automatically. It’s a trauma response; I’m trying to be unambiguous because I’m scared that any ambiguity will be used to hurt me. Exactly the way this post dismisses.
I’m not alone in this - it’s something I’ve seen in a lot of autistic folks, because a lot of us get punished for misunderstanding or communication issues.
Does that mean it’s not used by sexist sealions in the way described here? No, of course not. But… If you think this isn’t hitting autistic people you’re kidding yourself.
It’s because getting really angry isn’t going to work any better and it’s a good way to rile people up.
When I was in school I realized I could wield this against teachers trying to dress me down by leaning it into talking in school administratorspeak, which was an important step to my later realization of the general point that you establish command over humans just like you do animals, by mirroring them back at themselves with absolute confidence
So when Bloody was here, he’s basically the only person I’ve really hung out with at length since the brain Covid “personality change” who knew me before besides my parents, he was I guess watching how I moved and talked and was like “wow… that really wrecked you, huh?”
And similarly I could hear it in my voice when talking to him like I only had with my parents, I guess even if anxiety’s zeroed I’m still in a performative mode with strangers where it’s buried too deep beneath my mental sense of how I intend to sound…

Like, you guys encountering me through premeditated text probably aren’t getting half the scale of how fucked up I was (and to a degree still am!) Even when I was chatting with people on here, thinking “oh, it was nice to catch up with X”, then looking at it days later to realize I had been invoking really personal stuff and directly propositioning them for sex! In meatspace I was bringing three girls home from the bar in a week (I’d never done that once before) and only even realizing I’d done it weeks later
I think in progressive spaces, the term “white” is widely used to mean “culturally middle class”. And while I would prefer people just say “culturally middle class”, because it’s more accurate, “white” is a term that gets used widely for this idea (especially in America—I wonder why that could be…). Anyway, you will understand a lot of social justice discourse better if you understand that this is actually what people mean when they talk about “white feminism”, “white leftism”, and so on a good chunk of the time.
