from the ‘96 Battletech TCG

Notice that cost on the left margin means it costs 7 more unless you have the Politics resource (land), which unlike the other 4 resources (colours) had no game effects other than making celebrity pilots and “orbital bombing” direct damage cheaper

Somehow at the time this was not obvious as a metaphor for the post-Cold War “New World Order”, because the comparison set was like On The Edge and Illuminati and Netrunner and Illuminati and the X-Files CCG

The ‘90s were paranoid conspiratorial as hell, just like the ‘50s shit doesn’t make sense without that

It was because I was naked with an axe at the time. We’re pretty serious about not breaking any laws and stuff here, so I can’t really talk about it.

Why did you bring an axe and yet no clothing on the vampire tour, Frank?

I was being very considerate by leaving the axe within my grasp, where no one would need to see it, as the only way to harm me was by attacking my unprotected fleshy bits.

生臭い

namaguzai is closer to secular and profane because it has a connotation of dirtiness

So how did the Cold War security state react to domestic corporate espionage? Like, there’d be actual agents attached to Boeing projects to keep the Russians from knowing what they were doing, how did they deal with Lockheed trying to look into it?

For the most part everybody used (and uses) the same technology; the relevant advantages were in facilities and competent staff, which you can’t really steal. The only company-confidential data that might be useful would be costs for labor and materials. (and the only time anyone stole that stuff in recent history led to Lockheed and Boeing both losing their rocket-booster divisions, those being divested and combined into ULA.)

Really. No manufacturer made significant, not-immediately-obvious advances in aircraft design through the entire Cold War?

They feel fine, not often in a position to look at them (under strain, at least)

Also a thing is when I walked flatfooted I had to power stuff that gets helped by ankle or waist muscles now with the calves and quads alone, so I suspect they were overdeveloped to begin with.

Also I was maybe 240 tops in my life, and I’d be surprised if I was past 225 when the personality change happened and I started to lose (I’ve been gaining muscle too, and last time that combined with fat loss back at the dojo I actually got heavier as I got more trim)

Ugh, I need to make new friends again, and I’m already old for that and Portland doesn’t have the thing where everyone in a bar registers as a potential friend or lover anymore, fuck.

Unironically I might be best off finding some Reedies to be the grown friend to.

Huh, the belly isn’t as distant from the waist-pivot as breasts, but I’m still feeling the effect of the weight loss in my upper back.

Specifically, the back muscles that pull your torso back upright are now too strong for the task

I was Lt. Columbo for some thing in 5th grade where we all came in in the evening to put on little skits for parents about various curricular stuff. I was really the murder mystery frame story, I guess it was totally playing to the boomer parents which reasonable, I had no idea who he was but got his mannerisms from a few VHS tapes I was lent. I remember some girl was Eartha Kitt doing “I Feel The Earth Move” for plate tectonics. My cigar was a roll of tan construction paper stuffed with brown shreds.

I finally bought myself a bread lame. (pronounced “lahm”, like “llama” without the final “a”.) Until now I’d just been scoring bread with a loose razor blade held in my fingers, which is suboptimal.

And it came with instructions for how to load it, which are titled “Lame Instructions”. And my brain keeps going “can’t I have the cool instructions instead?”

The lame instructions.
