Alright, recovered from dragging those branches onto Strawberry Ridge in time to do a good bit of Smashing on Blueberry Hill. I can walk straight across from the fence gate rather than have to go around to get to the far side now!
1.5 days left budgeted which seems about right. Might have to drag some of those branches over to re-bulk Blueberry Hill out after some more smashing, but then a bunch of Strawberry Ridge was originally branches I dragged over when I started smashing last spring, so accounts balance.
hold up im reading more about the lionfish thing and this one island in Honduras has had such a huge problem with lionfish that the measures they have taken include
• getting special exemption from the Honduran government to allow divers access to harpoons and spears which are otherwise illegal in fishing
• public campaign to teach people how to prepare and eat lionfish (apparently they are very tasty once the poisonous spines are removed) (but watch out)
• holding lionfish combination hunting competition and cookout (reportedly they killed and cooked 1,700 in a day) (someone killed 60 of them with a rubber band spear gun???)
• most recently and apparently out of desperation, the divers in charge of culling the lionfish in the Roatan Marine Park just started. feeding the lionfish they killed to sharks. bc what else are you gonna do with it
• the sharks don’t seem to notice or be affected by the poison and begin hanging out with the divers
• the sharks then were seen hunting and killing the lionfish on their own
like this is nuts to me sorry. the sharks just had to be shown “hey this is food, did you know?? you can eat these!! here try one!!” we are possibly altering an entire foodchain bc we like feeding the big ocean wolves

The side yard where Blueberry Hill and Strawberry Ridge are is technically a city right-of-way (basically, a short street block that never got 3 of the 4 adjacent households voting to tax themselves to pave; the next block would’ve been too steep to continue anyway), not my property, I guess it feels fine to dump leaves and branches on (they fell there anyway!) but not hire people to terraform.
Beyond that I’m gonna hire people to do the house remodeling and of course I didn’t particularly do anything to acquire the resources to buy the house in the first place, so having part of the process involving mixing my labor with the products of the soil fills in there.
Have gone to Javy coffee concentrate which is like absurdly more instant than crystals – like, you pour a lining of coffee mud into the bottom of a mug and add water, heat optional, I can do this just woken up before my creatine kicks in from a 6-scoop hole – and yet pretty much equal or more to the best cold brew I’ve had.
The ability to carry around 30 servings of coffee in a bottle the size of a Binaca just feels like an invitation to mischief, though.

Woke up and there was a tree service truck out front with a bunch of branches down.
Unlike the last guys, who were clearing out for a new pole very nimbly with good communication, this was a hispanophone crew doing line clearance by butchery. Two branches I wish they’d just cut back to the trunk instead of leaving stubs I’ll have to hire a crew (around wires) to clean up before they waterspout up. It is clear the last crew understood how trees grow and this one did not.
That said I did manage to claim the wood for Strawberry Ridge.
Felt very 90s at points. Whaling Bad. Waterworld 9000. Can't think of a particular, contemporary oceanic documentary that was significant on the scale of Blue Planet, but the movie felt very indulgent on that past the first act.
