Frank, I’m sorry you’re not feeling your best! Have you tried going for a nice walk? The spring flowers are out 🌼

It’s 30 degrees outside today. A nice walk was the last thing on my mind.

What I really need is a computer and a Wi-Fi connection to stare at weird internet stuff.

As someone who was really curious for a long time about bihacking before just deciding (realizing?) I'm bi, I often wonder how many people are attracted to the idea who aren't "already bi", in some sense. You don't frame your own experience this way but, I don't know, any thoughts about that? Like, I'm still not sure whether to think my sexuality changed or my understanding of it changed, or if there's a meaningful distinction.

Oh no I wanted to be but just wasn’t, after psyching myself up enough I was like “maybe I am bi by now” and went home from a bar in LA with this couple and was hooking up with the guy and like no, I remember thinking “this is like giving someone a massage with your mouth while they choke you”, no spark whatsoever, couldn’t keep jerking off if I turned my mind to guys, all that, and its totally different now, just like a switch flipped and I can find value in maleness and male sexuality. Something in the vicinity of “gender euphoria” about inhabiting a male body, too

elfgrunge:

Going insane reading this wikipedia quote about the real life Cocaine Bear, which is taxidermied and kept in a mall in Kentucky (though it may actually be a different, unrelated, taxidermied bear)

According to the bear’s owners, the Cocaine Bear has the authority to officiate legally binding weddings in the mall where it is kept due to Kentucky’s marriage laws. This claim is only partly true; the bear does not have the authority to solemnize weddings, but the state of Kentucky cannot invalidate marriages performed by unqualified persons if the parties believe that the person marrying them has the authority to do so. As such, it is a belief in the Cocaine Bear’s authority that allows it to officiate legally binding weddings in Kentucky.

You have to BELIEVE in the power of your Cocaine Bear Marriage for it to take effect. Fucking magical.

I mean I’d recognize the name once you say it, but I’d not have thought of her. She was active around when tube sites first started to eat the Valley industry, right?

So it’s canonical that the CIA was shaping art trends for national advantage in the Cold War. And, of course, in both the peace and war periods of the FDR era, the government had entwined with the domestic cultural apparatus, to mutual delight.

Which makes me wonder about all the Hawaiiana - tiki style, the Elvis movies - in American culture around the time of Hawaii’s accession to statehood.

Basically, to use the Europa Universalis metaphor, was that America spending culture points to make core on Hawaii?

(and in some ways they were, moving part being the instrumental fact that your reputation mattered when your social world would consist of the same 200 people your whole life, in which standing waves of morality could be maintained)

people never waited for marriage to have sex

they waited for ENGAGEMENT

which is why in 19th century novels rakes making false promises of marriage are such a thing

Could you not before?

No, I was straight my whole life, I actually tried “bihacking” myself as a teen but while I succeeded in dispelling any aversion to m/m sexuality I ultimately had to accept I was just not into it. But in 2020 I caught Covid before vaccines existed, it spread to my brain and caused enough damage there that my existing personality was no longer viable, and after a period of depersonalization I generated a new one that is different in some major respects, including being bisexual.

Any particular reason you tried bihacking?

I thought it would be neat to be bi. And it is! The one thing that caught me off guard – both jerking off and sex with girls are appreciably hotter now. Because apparently once you’re into guys, “male sexual pleasure is a turn-on” includes your own.

The fact that you have a grey beard now, and the increase in porn consumption over the last 20 years, makes me dread what the Millennial version of “nostalgic Boomers give Bob Dylan the Nobel prize” will be like

Yes, on the other hand no real name from the post-studio era has broken through, like the Howard Stern-era 90s buildup of porn stars into recognizable brands, it was building all the way up to Sasha Grey getting straight film roles and then the industry ecosystem fell apart. Since then you had a bit of attention around Belle Knox’s debut for some reason, but she hardly turned out to be important. Really it’s been Belle Delphine acting as successor in branching from niche girlhood-provisioning celebrity to household name
