Okay, it was drizzling when I went out so I went under the boughs of the pine to smash the last bit of Blueberry Hill. Sharp-smashed half of it and realized I could finish it all standing on that rubble but I’d put my lower back out of commission a few days more, so I just blunt-smashed that half flat, went and cleared every blade of a low-quality grass from the lower back yard, and threshed the piles of branches left after yesterday, sharp and flat. Started to gather up the wreckage but it got too dark, so tomorrow.
You place the piece of wood that you want to bend in a chamber (usually just a long pipe with lots of room) and once it has completely heated up to temperature of the steam you take it out and bend it into a jig that holds the shape while it cools. Usually this requires “over-bending” by about 10% because it will spring back some even after it has completely cooled.
There is quite a bit of skill in getting the wood hot enough (without cooking it) and (without burning yourself) bending it to a shape that will spring back into the shape you really wanted.
I glanced at this and was like “guh, I feel like I recognize this yard”, and then 15 seconds later read the billboard and was like “503 area code… close to 28th and Sandy? Fuck, I do recognize this yard.” I got Blue Bitch repaired like two blocks away once.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I like to point out that well-formed snow crystals like those illustrated in classification charts are not the norm, and most of the snowflake types shown are actually quite rare. You may not realize this from photos you have seen, because photographers invariably present a heavily biased sample of what falls from the clouds. We stand out in the bitter cold for hours on end, searching for especially photogenic examples that exhibit well-formed, strikingly symmetrical features. Exceptionally beautiful snow crystals are a delight to behold, so we work hard to find them. And because most people are not eager to buy a book or read an article showing unattractive snowflakes, those photos do not get published.
To witness an unbiased snowflake sample, you need only go outside during a light snowfall and have a look. Every snowfall has a different character, and certain weather conditions are conducive to producing photogenic crystals. But essentially all snowfalls bring many examples from the “Irregulars” category. These small, somewhat malformed plate-like crystals are extremely common, and some snowfalls deliver little else. I sometimes call this “granular snow” because the crystals look a lot like icy grains of sand.
An unfortunate truth when snowflake watching is that granular snow and rimed crystals are especially prevalent when the temperature is near 0 C, which includes a lot of snowfalls. Because population centers tend to form in moderate climates, and -15 C (5 F) is considered bitter cold by typical standards, the laws of probability suggest that most people will rarely observe exceptionally beautiful snow crystals where they live, even when snow is fairly common
Are cats so drawn to fish because there’s more olfactory signal to open-air rot by underwater species without defenses against aerobic bacteria? (Presumably why fish “goes bad” before and smellier than red or white meat?)
Crazy I can take my lawn corer to some muddy puddles, extract some cores to improve drainage, and then not only do the puddles drain but the mud becomes visibly drier while it continues to rain
can’t express how much i despise that blazeability-by-others is opt-out rather than opt-in. maaaaaybe its immediately getting used for harassment will cause @staff to reconsider
And users giving the site money to do that might… make site experience worse, reducing user numbers and stickiness… reducing ad rates? What’s the mechanism here?
Like after the personality change if I had been more active and felt less eating compulsion or even if my metabolism changed and I lost weight that way it would be one thing.
But the thing about having to take the creatine is I am losing fat several times faster than humans are naturally capable.
Just waking up, and having a normal diet with 3 meals, one bigger than the others, and going out to do some yard work every day, which half the time is just carrying armloads of things around for three hours.
And out of this it’s like “oh, yup, working overtime to give you the ideal body you always wanted, just cuz, no, you don’t need to do anything, we got it.”
Like, I know it must be kinda tedious from outside to see me keep gawping at my miraculous luck, but reorienting myself to wrap my mind around it is kinda the major project of my interiority rn, and I’m still gonna be mulling it over for decades.
