Even as a kid i never understood the trope where the movie parent is like “Sorry kiddo, I have to go to Business Thing so i wont be able to make your Skateboarding Recital” and the kid is like “oh ok” (but secretly they werent!) and the story is about movie parent learning the moral that they should’ve gone to the skateboarding recital because what’s really important is family.
Like as a kid i remember thinking “No i understand the concept of a job and this seems like a perfectly legitimate excuse like they’re not lying and actually going to Vegas or anything they did nothing wrong. Also i dont do activities i enjoy because I wanna see my parents feel proud thats a nice bonus but the main reason is because I enjoy them? If my mom was busy then fine that just means a friend’s family can bring me and then maybe we can play or have a sleepover that’d be fun!”

I would say that the atmosphere is filled with an extremely dense, rarefied fluid called “godstuff,” which emits a weak blue glow around the earth’s surface. Objects in the atmosphere are transparent because they are too small to be luminous, but when light passes through them, it refracts, so that what looks like “blue light” is in fact “godstuff light” being scattered by all the little transparent godstuff particles along its way.

So there is a dog shelter(?) for senior dogs called Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary. They had a couple social media pages, among them a tumblr page. They’d repost posts from their Facebook about the different dogs at the shelter, very cute stuff. This goes on for months, it gets popular bc people love dogs. One day the blog (entirely out of the blue) posts “I just want to get dicked down again =/” and then never posts again. Everyone involved was like hey what the fuck so they messaged the Facebook page and they were like hey is the person running your tumblr page okay they’ve been acting real weird, and the person running the Facebook page was like huh??? We don’t have a tumblr page????

Saying ‘you should be bad!!’ In like Gay Voice to a white woman at starbucks has like the same psychological impact as going like ‘who’s a good boy?’ To a dog. It makes them so excited in a really endearing way.
Looking back on it, I think the thing that most made me despair of the adjacency with wordcel/shape-rotator bullshit last year was that it didn’t seem to move the needle on anyone’s opinion of anyone. You had all these people being like “well I don’t think it’s true that people with degrees in the humanities or social sciences have a lower class of brain and implicitly don’t merit a place in real Smart People Spaces because a Jungian quack who has arbitrarily declared himself the voice of science and logic said so, but this seems like a reasonable position that could be a real gem with a bit of amendment, and I certainly would never dream of respecting a person’s belief system less because that was a part of it.” Fuck off.
One of the things that drew me to the adjacency in the first place was that while it was mostly made up of STEM people, they had a genuine curiosity about a lot of topics outside of that collection of fields and didn’t usually fall victim to the sort of petty departmental turf wars that seem to be the bread and butter of every nerdy undergrad. It’s a shame that this seems to have waned over the years.

TPOT is the designation for what was once called “post-rationalist Twitter” but has expanded in scope such that it probably needed a new name. The boundaries are (deliberately) quite fuzzy, but if you imagine a collection of people who are kinda rat-adj but also very into “vibes” and indistinct spiritualism, and also quite chummy with both blueglobe Twitter and rightoid trad Twitter, you’ve basically got the gist of it.
The arched-foot walking style seems to keep more weight “sprung” than the old flatfooted one, with the result there is an appreciably greater relief of decompression when I get horizontal in bed at the end of the day
