THROW OFF THE JANGLY YOKE OF OPPRESSION

HEIDI I LOVE YOU

It’s clever but a little obvious how OKCupid offers you uglier people after 10pm or so

Few years ago a few webmags representing different strains of sidestream conservatism showed up all at once - Takimag (aristocratic), AltRight (white identitarian), Culture11 (quickly shuttered after it became clear “Postmodern Conservatism” was just James Poulos’ idiosyncrasy), Front Porch Republic (small town communitarian).

It might just have been the CMS of the time but you noticed their front pages all looked a bit like a reskinned AmCon, which was itself isolationist paleocon with Christian “white ethnic” tones. And you saw some overlap in content. That godawful fanboyish cultural history of modern Metal at AltRight got repackaged for Takimag, for one. FPR also shades into the preexisting popery of First Things, and of course there’s always VDare.

Since then they all changed their look, some of them their style. Takimag’s now younger and more Derbyshireish “dissident right”. (As awful as Vice without McInnes is, McInnes without Vice… ick)

I always wondered what the deal was there, who was paying for all this. But who knows? (I bet Unz, Buchanan, and Sailer do, for one)

The most interesting thing going on now in terms of rightism, Greater Cascadia, and the intersection of the two is the conquest of SF by Silicon Valley, and their increasing rightist alignment.

Among other things, this means “donglegate” and that BS is significant, not because SRS is conquering tech but because it isn’t. Moldbug, for all his high profile, contributes nothing novel but his “neocameralism” reformulation of the Divine Right of Kings in corporate shareholder idiom, but that’s exactly the idiom of VC and startup culture.

Silicon Valley’s run by people who read their SF and know worldbuilding and the intentional construction of societies. A while back Google decided to hire a lot of non-STEM Ivy Leaguers, pay them equivalent wages, and bring them on main campus, and have them do customer service gruntwork that could’ve been outsourced.

For one, now they’ve got a cadre from which to cultivate PR, government relations, and other political functions. For two a lot of the hires were smart women. I forget what color badges this group has but they’re called “the pretty ones”. After all, not all the techs are going to stay forever satisfied with the armies of Korean prostitutes imported to the AAMPs on the edges of the Valley.

Also if we’re talking First Things, Neuhaus wasn’t a bad writer, but I fundamentally couldn’t trust someone who used some variant of “sedevacantis*” three times in every essay without once taking the opportunity to say “antipope”.

(donglegate and Sarkeesian and dickwolves and whatnot aren't the infection, they're the inoculation)

That said I can definitely see that as being a major fault line within any identitarian Greater Cascadia, the Valley/SF/Seattle tech axis standing firm for “local culture” against meddling outsiders as an appeal to unity while their postindustrial/3-d printing economy undermines the Portland/Tacoma/sticks artisan skilled/semiskilled labor economy.

I guess a wildcard is the Intoxicant Farming economy of hops, wheat, grapes, and bud that would be a big cash crop export-driver with processing (into wine, beer, butane hash oil) adding value with artisan jobs

And I mean, you realize that Google’s literally building a robot army, right?

How screwed are we in this glorious early future?

I’ve had my own thoughts and speculation but I want to hear yours.

Random Remix of the Day - (these posts are just for the info and opinion and are going to be deleted on the next day) Strings remixes are kind of unusual but that doesn’t mean they are any less awesome. S&S is one of my favorite songs, I love the acoustic vibe, and I think it goes perfectly with the strings on this remix.

Taylor Swift is a supergenius lyricist. As a singer she has a limited range (but can emulate any idiom) and terrible vocal stamina for an arena headliner (so she’ll get that sexy smoker’s gravel in 5 years) but with words she’s one of 50 anglophones I consider on my level.

pretty much everything we know about Jesus’s appearance comes from the fairly reasonable argument “if he looked different from the expected appearance of a religious leader or messiah in some way it would have been remarked on”

Isaiah remarks that he (the messiah) would be “No beauty that we should desire him” but that’s classic PUA strategy of “negging” the messiah through reverse psychology to make him so love the world etc.
