so 2017 is a really big for finland since we turn 100 this year so they had this massive (by finnish standards at least) fireworks show in the city centre. Exactly! Everyone was talking about how we’d get a realignment along new ideological fault lines, but that doesn’t seem to have actually happened. Instead, we just got tribalism between groups that already saw each other as enemies, carried out in ways that you could make a bingo card out of.

I remember reading 80s comics in compilation while I waited for an M:TG or L5R opponent to open up on comic shop gamer Sundays, I remember a Vertigo Swamp Thing that was basically a Hellblazer/John Constantine takeover and it was like “Thatcher got elected! Yuppies! THEY ARE NAZI DEMONS WORSHIPPING HELLFIRE-BLAZING DOLLARS” and from the modern day I expected the subtle twist on the twist but nope that’s it, that had altitude to glide for a while

The analogy still works for me, I’d pay to see a movie where a women’s studies professor teaches a frat boy to rant about privilege and rape culture in order to pass a Woke Turing Test
Must include a “move your blooming ass” type slip that causes an actual feminist to fall for him.
Also the professor being portrayed as at least somewhat abusive.
