A bit in passing, in talking about Scientology. I’ve got some secondhand knowledge of that era and where it came from and some personal experience of it ambient in web 1.0 culture (I mean, part of it was even non-net American culture was having a cheesy-pagan chic moment in the ‘90s, which is maybe best explained as a stage in the shrugging-off of Christianity), but I’m not really confident about putting it into an integrated whole.

If you’re interested in this kind of stuff wouldn’t be the worst idea to look through @frankfurtschooldropout‘s back stuff, especially the “california ideology” tag, and follow through on that, though he’s mostly focusing at how all these ideas floating around out there served as a legitimating bridge between the Spirit of ‘68 and neoliberalism.
